    Description

Antique M1892 Curb Bit 2nd pattern. The most notable difference between the 1st and 2nd patterns is the difference in the height of the upper shank, with the 1st patterns having the much shorter upper shank.
(There are 12 pictures in all in the ad's picture gallery and the zoom feature is available. Also if you click on the main picture you will enlarge it and then larger images of all of the other pictures can be seen as well.)
The bit is faintly marked RIA (Rock Island Arsenal) in the boss area on the outside of one side of the bit, as shown in picture #6. Then in the boss area on the outside of the other side of the bit it is faintly marked 1904, as shown in picture #7. Both of these markings are quite worn and both are some-what hard to make out.
Then at one end of the mouth-piece it is marked U.S. and at the other end it is faintly marked with the number 2. These markings are shown in pictures #8 and #9. Both of these markings are worn as well.
The bit's surface shows some pitting of the metal. The pitting is quite noticeable on the bit's mouth-piece, where practically the whole mouth-piece is affected.  There is also some noticeable pitting on one of the lower shanks and I have tried to show the lower shank's pitting in picture #11.
Both of the rein rings show a lot of wear, as they both are not circular in shape anymore and both rein rings have areas where the metal has worn thin.
Plus the little "eye" holes there at the bottoms of both of the lower shanks show a lot of wear where the metal is very worn. (These little "eye" holes are the small holes at the bottoms of the shanks that the rein rings go through).
This antique U.S. Cavalry bit is being sold "no returns" and I will gladly send to anyone any additional pictures that they might like. I would also be happy to answer any questions.
Bidders from the lower 48 states only please and payment would be appreciated with-in 3 days after the auction ends. Thank-you.
