    Description

Gorgeous Italian? German? .800 Silver Courting Cherubs Jewelry Box / Casket
Presented is a gorgeous European silver dresser box or jewelry casket. This piece dates to the first half of the 1900s and is likely of Italian or German make, as both countries used the 800 silver standard frequently. The box is beautifully hand chased with a classical courting scene, showing two cherubs or puttis, one embracing and kissing the other, surrounded by Rococo style decoration in the form of foliate scrolls and flowers. The decoration and the central scene are nicely detailed, with a lot of visual appeal. The interior of the box has a green velvet lining, perfect for storing your jewelry or other trinkets.
This piece is in great condition. The lid closes nicely. The velvet lining is clean and in good shape. There are no dents, no splits, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The underside of the box is stamped 800 for the purity of the silver, as well as what looks like AMD, likely a maker's mark.
The box measures about 5 by 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches, LxWxH.
This piece weighs 267 grams or 9.4 regular ounces.
