    Description

    Antique U.S. Army Infantry ditty box that I believe dates back to the World War 1 era.  The ditty box is composed of an outer black vulcanized fiber material with brass reinforced corners, handles, and flip latches that keep the lid of the box closed in the front.  On the top of the box (see Photos 4 and 5) are U.S. Army weathered copper emblems that have been screwed into the box through the wings of the eagles.  Faded white paint that reads " DITTY BOX" has been stenciled on the top of the box.  The front of the box includes brass emblems consisting of Infantry crossed guns (see Photo 8).  Brass decoration is also on the back of the box (See Photo 10). The wood inside of the box is painted white (see Photos 6 and 7).
    The ditty box dimmensions (closed box) measures approximately 18.5 inches in width, 12.5 inches in depth, and 7.5 inches in height.  Weight of the ditty box is approximately 10.8 pounds.
    Please see all 12 photographs as the photographs are part of the description. The box is very sturdy, rigid, and strong.  The flip latches in the front are both in working condition.  One of the handles is missing from one of the sides of the box.  I'm listing this ditty box in as-found condition.  The ditty box has an abundance of character and would make a great display piece.
