  • Condition: This is a very old and unique item as you can see from the photos. It does have wear from age on it. There is no visible damage that I can see as he does not move or come apart and the clothes for not come off. He does look his age and the paint is chipping off the face as shown on the photos. That is only from age. The clothes do not come off except the hat as shown. He comes in a handmade plastic box which was sealed for display when I received it, so he has been kept in good conditions for the last 40 years or so. Since I had to open the box the front just popped open and a piece to help hold him popped off, but again, this was handmade and not professionally done so I do not expect the box to be kept.     A THIS WONDERFUL PIECE OF VINTAGE AMERICANA AND UNCLE SAM HISTORY.
    IT IS A U.S. WORLD WAR I ERA 'UNCLE SAM DOLL"
    WITH A VERY PRIMITIVE FOLK ART STYLE. HE IS MODELED DIRECTLY AFTER THE ORIGINAL SUIT USED BY JAMES MONTGOMERY FLAGG IN 1917 FOR THE ORIGINAL ARTWORK, FOR THE FIRST ISSUE

    THE DESIGN AND THE SUIT WORN MODELED DIRECTLY AFTER THAT DESIGN AS SHOWN "THE FOREMOST GUIDE TO UNCLE SAM COLLECTIBLES" BY GERALD E. CZULEWICZ SR.
    THIS COULD BE AN ORIGINAL MODEL FOR UNCLE SAM BASED ON THIS INFORMATION. IT LOOKS JUST LIKE IT, AND IT IS FROM THE EXACT SAME TIMEFRAME. I HAVE RESEARCHED QUITE A BIT BUT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO CONFIRM THIS.
    HANDMADE AS ALL THE VISIBLE SEWING AND KNOTS ARE HAND DONE. NONE OF THE CLOTHES ARE REMOVABLE. THE DOLL IS A STATIONARY PROUD FIGURE, HE DOES NOT MOVE OR BEND AT ALL.
    YOU CAN TELL THE AGE JUST BY LOOKING AT THE PAINT ON THE FACE... IT HAS AGED AND CHIPPED AWAY OVER THE MANY YEARS, BUT AGED TO A WONDERFUL PATINA....HE HAS A LOT OF AGE AND HISTORY TO HIM.
    HE IS ABOUT 10 INCHES TALL, OR ABOUT 11 1/2 INCHES INCLUDING THE HAT
    . HE WAS STORED AND DISPLAYED IN A HANDMADE PLASTIC CASE (DESCRIBED BELLOW) THAT COMES WITH.
    THAT IS HOW THE LAST OWNER (AN AVID UNCLE SAM AND PATRIOTIC COLLECTOR- WHO PREVIOUSLY WORKED IN  A NY MUSEUM--NOW RETIRED) HAD HIM SEALED IN FOR THE LAST 40 YEARS OR SO. THIS PROVIDED GREAT PROTECTION OVER THE YEARS TO PRESERVE & HELP HIM LAST. HE WILL LAST MANY MORE YEARS IN THE RIGHT HANDS!
    This is in excellent overall condition with minor wear from age and use..AND
    very old and unique item as you can see from the photos. THIS Uncle Sam does have wear from age on it. There is no visible damage (other than the paint on his face) that I can see as he does not move or come apart(CLOTHES other than hat are not removable). He comes in a handmade plastic box which was sealed for display... when I received it, so he has been kept in great condition for the last 40 years or so.
